NI Water has successfully completed a significant £2 million infrastructure improvement project in Bushmills, Northern Ireland. This initiative involved the installation of a larger diameter pipeline extending 3.8 kilometres from the Craig Park Service Reservoir to a connection point at the junction of Cozies Road and Cabragh Road. The upgraded infrastructure aims to enhance the water supply for residents in Bushmills and the surrounding areas.
The project is designed to futureproof the region’s water supply while reducing the frequency of pipeline bursts, which can lead to service disruptions. The completion of this scheme is anticipated to provide a more reliable and high-quality drinking water source for the local community.
Community Impact and Support
Anna Delargy, Project Manager at NI Water, expressed her gratitude for the collaboration that made the project possible. She stated, “The new main will provide an essential water supply system and ensure the security of supply and ongoing provision of high-quality drinking water to our customers in Bushmills and the surrounding area.” Delargy also acknowledged the contributions of the wider NI Water project team, including the contractor Farrans-Glanua JV and engineering consultancy WSP.
The support from the local community was instrumental in completing the project efficiently. Delargy noted, “I would like to thank our wider NI Water project team, including contractor Farrans-Glanua JV, WSP, and the wider community for their continued support and cooperation as we worked to complete this essential scheme which will help safeguard the local drinking water supply for generations to come.”
Future Developments
The completion of the new pipeline represents a crucial step in enhancing the water infrastructure in Northern Ireland. As climate patterns and population dynamics continue to evolve, investments like this one are essential for ensuring that communities have access to safe and reliable drinking water.
NI Water remains committed to ongoing improvements and innovations in water supply management, aiming to address both current needs and future challenges. The successful execution of this project in Bushmills serves as a model for similar initiatives across the region, demonstrating the importance of infrastructure investment in maintaining public health and community resilience.
