Ryanair has announced an expansion of its operations at Murcia Airport, offering flights to the Spanish destination with November temperatures reaching highs of 21°C. Starting fares for these flights are available from just £14.99. This move includes the introduction of four new routes, notably a direct service to London Stansted with four weekly flights, as well as increased frequency for flights to Birmingham and Dublin.
The budget airline’s expansion reflects a 37% increase in capacity at Murcia, which aims to enhance connectivity during the winter months. According to Alejandra Ruiz, Ryanair’s spokesperson in Spain, this initiative is expected to create over 450 local jobs and provide passengers with greater options at competitive prices. “Ryanair is pleased to announce its schedule for Murcia for the 2025 winter season, which includes four routes and increased capacity,” Ruiz stated.
While the growth at Murcia Airport is significant, Ryanair faces challenges in the broader Spanish market. The airline has been compelled to reduce its overall schedule by one million seats for the 2025/2026 winter season. This reduction stems from a 6.62% increase in charges imposed by AENA, Spain’s airport operator, alongside ineffective incentive schemes that jeopardize the viability of regional airports.
Ryanair has historically supported regional airports, believing that access to low fares can stimulate tourism and economic growth.
