English Teacher Arrested for Threatening US Embassy in Montenegro

A professor of English in Rožaje, Montenegro, has been arrested for allegedly sending a threatening email to the United States Embassy in Montenegro. The incident prompted an immediate response from local police, who coordinated efforts to identify and locate the sender.

According to the Police Directorate of Montenegro, the threatening message was directed at the embassy’s administration and senior officials. Following the report, officers from the Sector for Protecting Persons and Facilities undertook urgent actions in collaboration with other units within the police force. They successfully identified and located the sender, identified as A.K., a 35-year-old resident of Rožaje.

Upon locating A.K., police took him into custody. During questioning, he admitted to sending the email from his laptop. Subsequently, police obtained a court order to search his residence, where they confiscated his laptop as evidence.

In a statement from the Police Directorate, it was noted that the Basic State Prosecutor’s Office in Rožaje was informed about the incident. The prosecutor determined that A.K.‘s actions did not constitute a criminal offense but rather a violation of public order. Consequently, he was charged under Article 7 of the Law on Public Order and Peace for insulting behavior or misconduct.

The police highlighted that A.K. is employed as a professor of English at a secondary school in Rožaje. Furthermore, records indicate that he has a history of previous offenses, including being prosecuted for domestic violence.

This incident underscores the importance of addressing threats to diplomatic missions and maintaining public safety. The police have assured the community that they remain vigilant in their duties to protect citizens and institutions.
