Prime Minister Milojko Spajić emphasized the significant impact of access to the European Union’s (EU) single market on the lives of citizens in the Western Balkans following a recent summit of regional leaders in Tirana. He stated that this access not only enhances the quality of life for residents but also strengthens the stability and future prospects for the entire continent.
During the summit, Spajić declared that it is time for the Western Balkans to seize its opportunity for a European future. He expressed pride in Montenegro’s leadership role in the EU enlargement process, which has been anticipated for over a decade. On November 21, 2025, he shared on social media, “Access to the EU single market transforms the lives of citizens in this region and strengthens its stability and the prospects of all Europe.”
The Prime Minister highlighted several specific benefits that will come with this market access. These include faster border crossings, roaming charges equivalent to those within the home country, simpler and cheaper payment processes for both citizens and businesses, greater digital accessibility, and the overall advantages of integration into the EU.
Strengthening Regional Connectivity
Spajić noted the collaborative efforts with partners from the region and the EU to establish new connectivity instruments. These initiatives include the introduction of AI factories and the construction of a highway for the single market, which are expected to open European value chains to local companies and attract significant investments.
He underscored the shared goal of a quicker path to full EU membership, which he described as essential for the economic advancement of the region. The Prime Minister’s statements reflect a growing optimism among leaders in the Western Balkans about their future in the EU and the tangible benefits that come with integration.
The summit in Tirana served as a platform for discussing these critical issues and reaffirming the commitment of regional leaders to work together toward a unified European future. As discussions continue, the emphasis remains on collaboration, economic growth, and the shared vision of a prosperous region within Europe.
