In a recent video shared on Instagram, plumber Josh Pollard illustrated the dangers of improper grease disposal after responding to a client whose kitchen sink was experiencing persistent blockages.
During his investigation, Pollard traced the plumbing issues to an external gulley, leading him to the nearest manhole cover. Upon opening it, he discovered a significant blockage caused by solidified grease and fat, completely obstructing the drainage. The sight of the grey and white sludge was alarming, prompting Pollard to remove the material by hand while wearing gloves.
After clearing a portion of the blockage, he conducted a camera inspection using a flexible rod to assess the condition of the pipes further. The inspection revealed more grease and fat buildup within the system. Pollard explained, “I wash down the manhole and then carry out another camera inspection to prove the condition of the drain line. It does prove water to be holding in the pipework. This can accelerate the build-up of fat and grease in the line, but it’s not the root cause.”
