Study Reveals Surprising Trends in Christmas Gift Wrapping

A recent study indicates that a significant number of people are comfortable giving Christmas gifts without wrapping them, with men nearly twice as likely as women to do so. According to a survey of 2,000 adults, approximately one in six individuals sees no issue with presenting unwrapped gifts during the festive season.

The research, commissioned by DFS, shows that 20% of Gen Z and Millennials find unwrapped gifts acceptable, contrasting sharply with just 8% of those aged between 61 and 79. The survey also highlighted that 19% of men admit to presenting gifts unwrapped, compared to only 10% of women. Furthermore, men are more inclined to delegate wrapping tasks, with 17% opting to pass this responsibility to others, while only 7% of women do the same.

Insights into Holiday Preparations

As the holiday season approaches, Kellie Wyles, spokesperson for DFS, emphasized the importance of managing the festive workload. In conjunction with its new Guaranteed Christmas Delivery service, DFS has taken measures to alleviate the holiday stress by offering timely delivery of a variety of its products. Wyles remarked, “Christmas is a time of celebration, but never-ending to-do lists ahead of the big day can often contribute to the heightened emotion.”

The survey revealed that 29% of respondents dislike wrapping gifts, and 79% struggle with selecting appropriate gifts for specific individuals. Partners pose the greatest challenge, followed closely by parents and children. Consequently, 16% of participants reported waiting until Christmas Eve to finalize their shopping, which they perceive as adding excitement to the festive season. Despite this, a majority, 62%, prefer to have their holiday preparations organized well in advance, with 27% starting as early as November.

Many individuals opt to prepare early to spread out expenses, and over a quarter of respondents (27%) look to Black Friday as a prime opportunity for holiday shopping.

Beyond Wrapping: Comprehensive Holiday Planning

Holiday preparation extends far beyond merely wrapping gifts. The survey revealed that 50% of participants engage in thorough cleaning or tidying before the festive celebrations. Additionally, one in four adults rearranges furniture to accommodate guests.

Interestingly, 20% of respondents have considered purchasing new furniture in the lead-up to Christmas, with sofas, dining tables, and soft furnishings among the most desired items. Wyles further remarked, “Whether you’re a meticulous wrapper or more of a last-minute gifter, our research shows that everyone approaches Christmas differently.”

DFS aims to ease the holiday burden, whether through timely delivery of new furniture or providing inspiration through its festive preparation guide. The company is committed to ensuring that customers can enjoy a festive season that feels seamless and enjoyable.
