Keswick Council Seeks Community Input for Crosthwaite Road Upgrades

Residents of Keswick are invited to provide feedback on proposed improvement plans for Crosthwaite Road. Cumberland Council has initiated a statutory traffic regulation order consultation aimed at enhancing pedestrian safety and overall road functionality. The planned upgrades include the installation of a new pedestrian island, the construction of a short section of new pavement, and various other measures to ensure safer passage for all road users.

To facilitate these improvements, the council aims to extend an existing no waiting at any time restriction while introducing a new section of the same. These steps are deemed essential for maintaining adequate visibility for drivers and pedestrians alike. The council emphasized that the enhancements will support the safe and efficient movement of vehicles, including those used for emergency and public transport services.

Tree Removal and Future Considerations

As part of the improvement efforts, an ash tree located on the site will need to be removed. The tree has been identified as infected with ash dieback, a condition that necessitates its removal either now or in the future. Taking action at this stage allows the council to proceed with the overall scheme safely and minimizes the potential for disruption later on.

The council has set a deadline for residents to submit their comments, objections, or representations regarding the proposed changes. All feedback must be submitted in writing by March 27, 2024, and should be directed to [email protected], with “Crosthwaite Road, Keswick TRO” noted in the subject line.

By engaging the community in this process, Cumberland Council aims to ensure that the upgrades meet local needs while prioritizing safety for pedestrians and drivers.
