As the festive shopping season approaches, finance expert Martin Lewis has unveiled lesser-known Amazon sub-sites that offer significant discounts on technology items, with savings potentially reaching up to 50 percent. During his appearance on the television program This Morning, Lewis highlighted three specific areas of Amazon where shoppers can find bargains, making it easier to secure affordable gifts ahead of Christmas.
Discovering Amazon’s Hidden Discounts
Lewis pointed out that many shoppers remain unaware of Amazon’s Resale, Renewed, and Outlet sections. He emphasized the importance of exploring these options rather than settling for items in the main Amazon marketplace.
“First is Amazon Resale, which offers 50 percent discounts on items that have been returned,” Lewis explained. He noted that while some products might come in slightly damaged packaging, the quality is often still excellent. For instance, one customer shared their experience of purchasing a coffee machine at a fraction of the cost, despite the box being damaged.
The second sub-site, Amazon Renewed, features refurbished technology, typically over a year old, from reputable brands such as Apple and Samsung. Lewis stated, “This could be laptops, headphones, or smart watches, all backed by a one-year warranty.”
The Amazon Outlet offers a mix of clearance items. Lewis humorously described it as “odds and ends,” suggesting that while it may contain some less desirable products, shoppers might discover valuable deals, particularly on toys and games.
Maximizing Savings and Navigating Discounts
For those eager to shop, many items from these sections can still arrive before Christmas. Lewis encouraged last-minute shoppers to explore these platforms for potential savings.
Nevertheless, he cautioned consumers to be wary of Amazon’s pricing strategies. “Amazon often adjusts its displayed discounted prices, making it crucial to investigate what the original price was and when it was last at that amount.”
To assist in this process, Lewis recommended the independent price-checking website Camel Camel Camel. This tool allows shoppers to track the price history of products on Amazon, offering insights into whether a discount is genuinely significant. “You can see if something was 57 percent off three months ago compared to the current 22 percent discount,” Lewis noted.
As consumers gear up for holiday shopping, being informed about these hidden Amazon sections and utilizing price tracking tools can ensure better deals on technology gifts this Christmas season.
