Moray Council Libraries Introduce Powerful Research Tools

Moray Council libraries have enhanced their offerings by introducing two significant research tools for library members to explore. The addition of the British Newspaper Archive and Ancestry Library Edition allows users to delve into history and trace their family lineage through extensive records.

The British Newspaper Archive is now available at all local libraries in Moray, providing free access to millions of historic newspaper articles from around the globe. Library members can conduct searches using their membership cards, making it easier to uncover historical events and perspectives.

In addition, the Ancestry Library Edition enables users to research their family history. This resource includes vital UK records for births, deaths, marriages, military service, and other significant events. Users can also access UK census records, parish records, and immigration and emigration documentation, enriching their genealogical research.

Access and Availability

Library computers are available for free use, but it is advisable to book in advance to ensure access. Alternatively, library members can connect to public Wi-Fi and utilize these resources on personal devices. This flexibility allows users to engage with the new tools comfortably, whether at home or in the library.

Cllr Kathleen Robertson, Chair of Moray Council’s Education, Children’s and Leisure Services committee, expressed enthusiasm about the new digital resources. “We’re delighted to offer these new digital resources to our community,” she stated. “Whether you’re researching your family tree or exploring historical events, these tools provide a wealth of information right at your fingertips.”

The introduction of these resources reflects a commitment to enhancing community access to information and fostering educational opportunities. By integrating technology into library services, Moray Council aims to support users in their pursuit of knowledge and personal history, providing an invaluable service to the community.

As interest in genealogy and historical research continues to grow, the availability of these tools positions Moray libraries as essential resources for residents eager to connect with their past. The initiative not only promotes literacy and learning but also strengthens community ties through shared history and discovery.
