Authorities in Montenegro have arrested four individuals, including three minors, suspected of stealing a total of 48 livestock from local farms. The thefts, which reportedly took place between late November and mid-December 2023, have led to significant losses for the affected property owners.
According to the Podgorica Police Administration, the suspects are believed to have targeted properties in the municipalities of Zeta and the Podgorica district of Dajbabe. The thefts involved removing livestock from auxiliary structures and fenced yards belonging to three victims. The stolen animals were allegedly sold to an individual identified as S.S. for over €3,000.
The arrested individuals include D.M., a 20-year-old, along with three minors aged 16 and 17. The arrests were made under the direction of the Basic State Prosecutor’s Office in Podgorica, which has initiated proceedings for a serious theft committed over an extended period. Furthermore, a criminal complaint has been filed against S.S. for concealing the stolen livestock.
In the course of their investigation, police managed to recover 19 of the stolen animals, which have since been returned to their rightful owners. The authorities are continuing their efforts to locate the remaining livestock and gather further evidence against the suspects.
The case highlights ongoing concerns regarding agricultural crime and the protection of farmers’ assets in the region. The police have urged community members to report any suspicious activities that could assist in curbing such thefts in the future.
