Bokelj’s Bold Move: Savićević Transforms Team’s Fortune

Bokelj Football Club’s surprising decision to appoint Vladimir Savićević as head coach during the season has quickly proven to be a game-changing move. Despite being last in the league and facing significant injury challenges, the 35-year-old coach has revitalized the team since taking charge on September 11, 2023. Under his leadership, Bokelj has climbed out of the relegation zone, demonstrating resilience and determination.

Savićević, who previously lacked experience in the top-tier league, embraced the challenge at a critical moment. His first task was daunting, yet he believed in the potential of the players. “From day one, I knew we could pull the team out of this crisis,” he stated. Indeed, Bokelj ended the first half of the season on a positive note, securing victories against strong opponents, including a notable win against Budućnost.

As the winter break approached, Bokelj positioned itself ninth in the league, accumulating 19 points, four points clear of the bottom-placed team, Jedinstvo. Savićević emphasized the importance of consistency in performance. “We have not felt the bitterness of defeat in the last five matches, and we only lost once in the final eight rounds of the first half,” he noted.

Building Momentum for the Second Half

The upcoming spring season is crucial, as every point will carry greater significance. Savićević expressed confidence in his team’s ability to maintain their top-flight status. “If we start positively in spring, we can aim for a position above the relegation zone,” he asserted.

The coach is not expected to make significant changes to the squad, although there have been some departures. Notably, Kokinis, a Greek international, and Nishimura, a Japanese player, have left, while some local players are exploring new opportunities. On the flip side, Bokelj has made strategic additions, including Bakir Nurković, a promising young talent born in 2005, and Bogdan Stamenković, a forward with experience in Serbia’s Superliga.

Preparations for the second half will begin on January 12, 2024, with the team scheduled to play seven friendly matches to sharpen their skills. Their final preparatory match is set for February 14, 2024, against Petrovac.

Acknowledgment of Coaching Excellence

In recognition of his efforts, Savićević has been shortlisted for the title of best domestic coach in the league, ranking third in the recent awards by the Montenegro Football Association. “This recognition means a lot, especially coming from my colleagues,” he remarked, highlighting his passion and commitment to the sport.

Additionally, Savićević plans to enhance his coaching skills further by attending training sessions in Milan, where he will observe the renowned coach Massimiliano Allegri. “I am someone who loves to learn and grow. Observing great coaches like Allegri is an invaluable opportunity,” he said.

Bokelj’s bold decision to appoint a young coach has not only revitalized the team’s fortunes but also positioned them for a promising future in the league. As they prepare for the challenges ahead, the focus remains on maintaining momentum and securing their status in the top division.
