Supporters of Östersunds FK have successfully raised a total of £16,397 (approximately 200,000 SEK) to fund the transfer of club hero Curtis Edwards back to the Swedish football club. Edwards, who previously played under the management of Graham Potter, is now poised for a return after the club appealed to its fanbase for financial support.
Within just a few days, fans responded enthusiastically to the club’s call for donations. In exchange for their contributions, supporters who donated a specified amount were promised a commemorative Edwards scarf. The club expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support, stating, “We can see that after just a few days, you supporters have joined in and contributed in an unforgettable way.” The announcement also highlighted that 34 fans had secured their scarves.
In a significant development following the fundraising success, Edwards announced his departure from Gateshead FC. The National League club confirmed that he left by mutual consent after making 23 appearances and providing three assists this season. Edwards began his career as a graduate of the Middlesbrough academy and has since enjoyed a diverse career across Sweden and Norway.
Edwards first gained recognition during his time at Östersunds FK, where he played a pivotal role in the club’s memorable Europa League campaign in 2018. He featured prominently in two matches against Arsenal, including a notable performance that helped Östersunds take an early lead in the second leg of their tie at the Emirates Stadium.
After his tenure at Östersunds, Edwards played for Djurgården in Sweden and Stabæk in Norway. He later returned to the UK, where he had spells with clubs including Woking and Notts County. His most recent stint with Gateshead has now concluded, setting the stage for his anticipated return to Östersunds.
While the transfer details are still unfolding, all indications suggest that Edwards will soon don the Östersunds jersey once again, much to the delight of the club’s supporters. The collective effort of the fans not only highlights their passion for the club but also reinforces the unique bond between the team and its community.
