Former footballer Jamie Redknapp has raised concerns regarding Mohamed Salah‘s future at Liverpool FC, suggesting that the forward may not remain with the club if he does not receive consistent starting opportunities. Salah, who signed a new contract during the summer, has struggled to find his form in the current season, scoring only four goals as of now.
The 2025-26 campaign has proven challenging for both Salah and the team, which currently sits eighth in the Premier League standings. Salah’s recent performances have been particularly disappointing; he was benched for the last two matches, which culminated in a frustrating appearance from the sidelines during the draw against Sunderland at Anfield on Wednesday.
Redknapp, now a pundit for Sky Sports, expressed his thoughts on Salah’s situation. He stated, “As good as Salah has been, everything comes to an end. It does feel that something has to give. There is no way that Mo Salah is going to be content to be a bit-part player.” He speculated that Salah could be on his way out of Liverpool, whether in the upcoming January transfer window or during the summer.
The inherent pressure of the forward’s role is compounded by what Redknapp describes as a “broken trust” between Salah and the club’s management. He emphasized that Salah, known for his need for confidence and support from coaches, may reach a breaking point. “Once the trust is broken, especially with someone like Mo, who needs confidence and love from a manager… I feel it is going to come to a head,” Redknapp added.
Liverpool’s current standing in the league has drawn criticism from fans and analysts alike. Fellow former player and Sky Sports commentator Jamie Carragher voiced his worries about the team’s performance, describing it as “really, really worrying.” He noted that the squad appeared to lack the necessary energy and decisiveness, stating, “It feels like a step back. They didn’t look like scoring. They were lacking zip, energy, pace and power.”
As the season progresses, the spotlight remains on Salah and Liverpool’s management. The looming question is whether the club can restore the forward’s confidence and reintegrate him as a pivotal player, or if this season will mark an end to his storied tenure at Anfield.
