Joe Burrow Shines in Practice, Poised for Return Against Patriots

CINCINNATI – Quarterback Joe Burrow showcased impressive form during practice this week, taking every snap as the Cincinnati Bengals prepare for their upcoming game against the New England Patriots. For the second consecutive day, Burrow participated fully in drills, indicating a potential return to the active roster after a lengthy recovery from a turf toe injury sustained in Week 2.

During the open media session, Burrow was seen working closely with starting center Ted Karras on the crucial ball exchange. His performance in practice has sparked optimism among teammates, particularly wide receiver Tee Higgins, who remarked, “Joe’s been looking outstanding, man. He’s slinging it deep, short routes. Everything’s been pretty good.”

Burrow, who has not played since undergoing surgery to address his foot injury, initially targeted a return around Thanksgiving. However, recent developments suggest he may be ready sooner than anticipated. Wednesday marked Burrow’s first full practice since the Bengals activated his 21-day return window on November 10, 2023.

The Bengals’ coaching staff, led by head coach Zac Taylor, remains cautious. In an interview with WLW radio, Taylor stated, “I’m not there yet. One day at practice isn’t going to lead to that decision yet,” emphasizing the importance of ensuring Burrow is fully fit before his return to the field. Taylor is expected to provide further updates during a press conference scheduled for Friday afternoon.

The Bengals, currently holding a record of 3-7, aim to break a three-game losing streak and end an eight-game skid against the Patriots, who boast a record of 9-2. If Burrow plays, this game will mark the second consecutive year he has returned from injury to face New England at home. Last season, he made his comeback in the 2024 season opener but suffered defeat against the Patriots.

As Burrow’s teammates remain supportive, they stress the importance of patience to ensure he returns at full strength. Higgins added, “He needs to take as much time as he needs, but I mean, he looks good. If he’s ready, then I’m ready. Take as much time as you need to get back to 100 percent, which I think he is [at] now.”

The anticipation builds as the Bengals prepare for Sunday’s match, with fans eager to see if their star quarterback will take the field once again.
