Man Detained in Podgorica After Allegedly Assaulting Partner

A man from Bosnia and Herzegovina has been detained in Podgorica on suspicion of committing domestic violence against his partner. The suspect, identified as S.T., faces allegations that he physically assaulted his intimate partner, also named S.T., on January 3, 2026, around 03:30 hours.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office of Podgorica, the incident occurred after a brief verbal altercation between the couple. Reports indicate that the suspect, while under the influence of alcohol, grabbed his partner by the arms, pushed her to the ground, and struck her in the face with an open hand. As a result, she sustained minor injuries.

The prosecutor’s office has stated that the detention was deemed necessary due to a significant risk of flight. Officials noted that S.T. is a foreign national who has been residing in Montenegro solely because of his partner. This factor raises concerns about his potential to evade prosecution.

The legal proceedings will continue as authorities assess the situation further. The case highlights ongoing issues related to domestic violence, emphasizing the need for protective measures for victims in similar circumstances.
