The highly anticipated BMW Neue Klasse i3 electric saloon has commenced winter testing at the BMW training centre in Arjeplog, Sweden. This testing phase is a critical step as the vehicle prepares for its design debut on March 18, 2026. The winter conditions in Sweden offer an ideal setting for evaluating the car’s performance and capabilities in challenging environments.
Mike Reichelt, Head of Neue Klasse BMW, emphasized the significance of the i3’s design, stating, “The BMW i3 applies the sporty sedan’s typical characteristics to a completely new vehicle concept defined by the BMW 3 Series DNA. At the same time, it pushes the conventional boundaries of electric mobility into new territory, thanks to the potential of our Neue Klasse.”

The i3 incorporates a central control unit known as the ‘Heart of Joy’, which functions as one of four superbrains within the Neue Klasse architecture. This advanced system, combined with BMW’s proprietary Dynamic Performance Control software, oversees the powertrain, steering, brakes, and energy recuperation. It boasts response times that are ten times faster than previous systems, enhancing both performance and safety.
