UPDATE: An armed gang stormed the Breck Road Post Office in Anfield today, January 21, 2023, at 11:07 AM, threatening a female staff member during a brazen attempted robbery. The shocking incident unfolded in broad daylight, leaving both employees and nearby pedestrians shaken.
According to Merseyside Police, three masked men, possibly armed with a firearm, entered the post office with the intent to steal cash. Fortunately, the staff member was unharmed, but she is understandably distressed by the encounter. Detective Inspector Paula Jones condemned the attack, stating, “To threaten someone who is simply doing their job is appalling and will not be tolerated.”
The suspects, who fled the scene empty-handed, were described as wearing all dark clothing and face coverings. They escaped on foot towards a dark-colored Audi parked in the nearby Home Bargains car park before driving away from the area.
Detective Inspector Jones emphasized the urgency of the situation, appealing for anyone with information to come forward immediately. “This attempted robbery occurred during broad daylight, so there would have been pedestrians and motorists in the area. If you witnessed anything suspicious or have any information whatsoever about what happened, please get in touch as a matter of urgency,” she urged.
In the aftermath of the incident, a notice was posted at the front of the Post Office, indicating that the branch would be closed on Thursday, January 22, and would reopen on Friday, January 23, at 9 AM. A spokesperson for the Post Office confirmed the attempted robbery and expressed support for the affected staff members.
