URGENT UPDATE: Renowned artist and designer Barbara Bjeliš has just launched her stunning photography exhibition titled “Afterlight” at the Galerija Centra za kulturu Prijestonice Cetinje. This groundbreaking showcase, which opened to the public earlier today, features a captivating series of layered photographs that explore themes of belonging, transience, and the connection between body and landscape.
The exhibition is a culmination of years of experimentation with multiple exposures taken on a small analog camera. Bjeliš harnesses chance as a co-author in her work, creating an intimate dialogue between the human form and the breathtaking landscapes of Durmitor.
Bjeliš revealed that her arrival in Cetinje was entirely unplanned, yet pivotal for the realization of this project.
“I found myself in Cetinje by some stroke of fate. We were traveling through Montenegro and stumbled upon this gallery, which I instantly loved. After a conversation, I was offered the opportunity to showcase my work here, which I happily accepted,”
she shared.
The photographs displayed span nearly a decade, with some taken almost ten years ago and others completed this year at Durmitor, adding a rich personal and temporal depth to the project.
“Afterlight” invites visitors to engage with the interplay of intimate moments and expansive nature, capturing the essence of human experience within various spaces and times.
Barbara Bjeliš, a talented designer and artist from Zagreb, holds a master’s degree in visual communications from the Design Studies program. In 2018, she founded Studio Kanu, and her works have been featured in numerous exhibitions both domestically and internationally. She is also a recipient of the award for Best Film Poster at the SEECS Festival in Istanbul and currently resides and works in Oslo.
The “Afterlight” exhibition will remain open for public viewing at the Galerija Centra za kulturu Prijestonice Cetinje until January 14, 2024. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to experience the intricate fusion of human and environmental narratives through Bjeliš’s lens.
This is a developing story, and updates will follow as more information becomes available.
