URGENT UPDATE: BermudAir has just announced the termination of its flights to Richmond and Raleigh/Durham, effective January 2026. This sudden decision marks a significant shift in the airline’s network strategy and impacts travelers who rely on these routes for international access.
Originally launched in September 2023, BermudAir aimed to connect Bermuda with key destinations in the United States and Canada. The airline has scheduled over 2,800 flights this year alone, including new services to Richmond and Raleigh/Durham. However, recent months have seen a series of route cancellations, raising concerns about the carrier’s long-term viability.
The Richmond flight, which began in June, operated twice a week. This latest cut means that Richmond will lose its only international flight, a service that had not been available since the mid-2010s. Travelers are expressing frustration as this loss further limits their connections to Bermuda and beyond.
“This decision is disappointing for our community, which has long relied on international connections,” said a local travel agent.
Earlier in July, BermudAir also ceased operations to Fort Lauderdale and T.F. Green International Airport in Rhode Island, just weeks after launching those routes. The airline’s strategy appears to be shifting from servicing secondary airports to focusing on more lucrative, high-demand markets.
In an effort to stabilize operations, BermudAir recently initiated flights to major East Coast gateways, including Newark and LaGuardia, and plans to increase frequencies at Newark starting in June 2024. This move aligns with their goal of enhancing connectivity and profitability.
In a bold expansion, BermudAir has also introduced its new subsidiary, AnguillAir, which will commence operations in December from Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport in Anguilla. This subsidiary will open three new routes to the United States: Baltimore, Boston, and Newark, significantly improving direct travel options for Anguilla residents.
However, the airline faces mounting financial pressures, including millions owed to Skyport, which manages Bermuda’s L.F. Wade International Airport. The ongoing legal disputes could severely impact BermudAir’s ability to sustain growth and expand its fleet, essential for potential long-haul operations.
As travelers and stakeholders react to these developments, the future of BermudAir hangs in the balance. Customers are encouraged to monitor the airline’s website for updates on their travel plans and any further changes to routes.
Stay tuned for more updates as this story develops. The airline’s next steps will be critical in determining its path forward amid these challenges.
