Community Unites to Support Mother and Daughters After Fire

A devastating fire on February 7, 2024, consumed the home of Danijela Mladenović, a single mother living in a modular house in the Zagorič park forest area of Montenegro. Mladenović, who was at work at the time, lost her home along with her two daughters, while her third daughter was outside. The fire resulted in the destruction of the living room, significant damage to the kitchen, and affected other parts of the house, but fortunately, no one was seriously injured.

In the wake of this tragedy, Mladenović has received an outpouring of support from her community, including neighbors, former employers, and local institutions. She expressed her gratitude to all those who have reached out to help, stating, “I am thankful for all the humane people, the Main City, and other institutions that are assisting me and my daughters.”

The Secretary for Social Welfare confirmed that while they currently do not have any available municipal housing units to offer Mladenović, they will provide financial assistance of €600. Additionally, a local acquaintance has provided temporary accommodation for the family, allowing them to stay together during this challenging time.

Community members have stepped up, with some already depositing funds into Mladenović’s bank account. She noted that her former employers and the schools attended by her daughters are also offering financial support. “I have received many messages from people wanting to help. It is heartwarming to see such generosity,” she added.

As Mladenović navigates this difficult period, she is currently unable to return to work. Her oldest daughter, who is in the fourth year of high school, has also missed classes this week to cope with the family’s situation. Mladenović emphasized the importance of community support, saying, “There are truly humane people. So many have reached out to help.”

The fire broke out in the small modular house located at 27 Street Five. Thanks to the quick response from the local fire service and the calm actions of Mladenović’s oldest daughter, the situation did not escalate further.

The Main City and the Secretary for Social Welfare assured the public that they are conducting investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the fire. They also stated that they will provide one-time financial assistance to Mladenović and her daughters and are exploring additional support measures for the property owner, in line with applicable regulations.

For those looking to contribute to Mladenović’s family, donations can be made to her bank account at Crnogorska komercijalna banka, account number 510000000200189125. The community’s collective response highlights a shared commitment to supporting families in need during times of crisis.
