BREAKING: Construction has officially begun on a brand new secondary school in Bristol, transforming a former industrial site into a state-of-the-art educational facility. The groundbreaking ceremony for Oasis Academy Temple Quarter took place last week, signaling a significant step forward in the Temple Quarter Enterprise Zone.
This new school, located on Silverthorne Lane, is designed to initially accommodate 1,600 pupils aged 11 to 16, with plans to expand to include a sixth form in the future. The facility aims to offer an inspiring learning environment, combining modern teaching spaces with amenities that foster student wellbeing and community engagement.
Richard James, head of the school, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “The groundbreaking ceremony is a proud moment for Oasis and for East Central. It marks the beginning of a new chapter, one that will see our students and community benefit from a permanent, purpose-built space designed for learning, growth, and connection.”
The project will include a new main school building and the conversion of a historic boiler shop into a sports hall, ensuring a blend of modern education with the site’s rich industrial heritage. Peter Reavey, regional director at Graham Construction, highlighted the significance of this project, noting that it will serve generations of young people in Bristol.
The permanent academy building is scheduled to open in September 2027, and the community is already excited about the potential impact on local students. The ceremony also featured remarks from Rev Steve Chalke, founder of Oasis, along with representations from students and local community members.
As work progresses, the community is eagerly anticipating a facility that promises not only to educate but to inspire and connect future generations. Stay tuned for ongoing updates as construction develops on this landmark project in Bristol.
