URGENT UPDATE: Flood alerts have just been issued for multiple areas in Shropshire as river levels surge, raising immediate concerns for residents. The Environment Agency confirmed alerts for the River Severn, the confluence with the River Vyrnwy, and the River Dee catchment area from Whitchurch to Chester.
As of November 5, residents are advised to stay vigilant, with potential flooding impacting low-lying land and roads adjacent to rivers. The agency is expected to provide updates by 10 AM today, but current forecasts indicate that flooding remains a real possibility in the region.
Key areas under threat include regions from Shrewsbury to Upper Arley, as well as the stretch from the Welsh border at Llawnt to Shrawardine, near Shrewsbury. Specific locations such as White Abbey, Coalbrookdale, Ironbridge, Bridgnorth, Llanymynech, Maesbrook, Melverley, and Pentre are also at risk.
River levels are predicted to peak between 5.5 and 5.7 metres at the Crew Green river gauge near Shrewsbury, between 2.2m and 2.5m at the Welsh Bridge, and between 3m and 3.5m at Buildwas.
The Environment Agency warns: “Flooding is possible over the next two days, affecting low-lying land and roads adjacent to the river.” Residents are urged to take precautions, avoid low-lying roads, and stay informed of the latest updates as the situation develops.
This is a rapidly evolving situation, and authorities are closely monitoring the conditions. Stay tuned for immediate updates as they become available. Share this news to keep others informed and safe!
