UPDATE: Honda has just announced a significant overhaul of the ZR-V, now exclusively featuring a hybrid powertrain, dropping the previous 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine. This revamped SUV is set to hit the Japanese market in March 2026, marking a pivotal shift in Honda’s approach to eco-friendly vehicles.
The latest ZR-V will be equipped with a 2.0-litre Atkinson-cycle engine paired with an e-CVT, producing 141 PS and 182 Nm of torque. This engine not only powers the vehicle but also generates electricity for a separate electric traction motor delivering 135 kW (184 PS) and 315 Nm of torque. This dual functionality enhances efficiency and performance, making it a game-changer in Honda’s lineup.
Previously sold in different configurations around the globe, including as the HR-V in North America and China, the ZR-V now simplifies its offerings for the Japanese market. The former X trim has been discontinued, leaving the Z trim as the primary option, along with two special editions: the Black Style and Cross Touring. Both editions emphasize cosmetic enhancements, with the Black Style featuring a sleek Grey Metallic exterior, while the Cross Touring adopts a rugged Desert Beige look.
In addition to its new powertrain and variant lineup, the ZR-V embraces cutting-edge technology. The inclusion of Google Assistant allows drivers to control music, make calls, and manage messages through voice commands, ensuring a more connected and distraction-free driving experience. The vehicle also features Google Maps for real-time traffic updates and automatic rerouting.
Users can expect a 9-inch Honda CONNECT touchscreen, a comprehensive Honda SENSING safety suite, and a premium 12-speaker BOSE sound system. Additional features include a 10.2-inch digital instrument display, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, and multiple driving modes, including Sport, Normal, Econ, and Snow.
