International Children’s Theatre Festival Set for Danilovgrad

A new cultural initiative is set to take center stage in Danilovgrad as the first International Festival of Theatre for Children is scheduled from May 25 to May 31, 2024. Organized by the local Center for Culture, the festival will showcase a selection of high-quality professional performances suitable for young audiences, drawn from previous seasons.

Each day of the festival will feature a different play, followed by engaging discussions with a children’s jury. This interactive component aims to foster a deeper understanding of the performances among the young viewers. In addition to the main program, the festival will offer creative workshops and activities for children, focusing on cultural and artistic expression. These sessions will take place either outdoors or at various city squares, enhancing community involvement.

The festival’s artistic team includes notable figures such as theatre director and professor Petar Pejaković, actress Jelena Simić, and actor Slaviša Grubiša. The editorial team comprises psychologist and producer Marija Bačković, actress Danica Rajković, and actor Stevan Vuković. Together, they aim to create a vibrant and inclusive atmosphere for both participants and attendees.

In anticipation of the festival, the Center for Culture Danilovgrad is launching an art competition themed “International Festival of Theatre for Children Danilovgrad.” This initiative invites children from all primary schools in Montenegro to create drawings or paintings related to the festival theme. This includes participation from children with developmental challenges and those involved in non-governmental organizations working with similar demographics across the country.

The competition encourages children to express their creativity and talent, contributing to the festival’s artistic landscape. Submissions will be displayed at a dedicated exhibition at the end of February, showcasing the young artists’ works. The top three entries will be integrated into the festival’s official visual identity, further highlighting the importance of inclusivity in the arts.

Schools will be informed about the festival’s program and activities, ensuring broad participation. The competition remains open until February 21, 2024, with the goal of inspiring children to engage with cultural events and become active members of their community’s cultural life.

The festival represents a significant step toward enriching the cultural fabric of Danilovgrad, providing children with a unique opportunity to explore theatre while fostering creativity and inclusiveness in the arts.
