BREAKING: Jesse Lingard has opened up about his regrets regarding his time at Nottingham Forest, revealing he always intended to return to West Ham United. In a candid interview with Sky Sports, the former England international shared insights into his tumultuous spell at the City Ground, which ended in disappointment.
Lingard, who joined Nottingham Forest as a free agent in July 2022 after leaving Manchester United, made just 17 league appearances before his contract expired. The move was initially seen as a significant step following the team’s promotion to the Premier League, but it quickly turned sour.
“I wanted to go to West Ham. That was just facts,” Lingard stated, emphasizing his past success during a loan period at the club. “I went there on loan, did well, and it made sense to go back.” However, he revealed that various factors influenced his decision to join Forest instead.
Reflecting on his time at Nottingham, Lingard noted, “I’ve learnt through the process of being at Forest about certain people.” He acknowledged the allure of a longer contract at West Ham, stating, “Of course you’d take the three-year deal over the one-year deal at Forest; it’s just common sense.”
With his time at Nottingham behind him, Lingard now finds himself a free agent after a stint with South Korean club FC Seoul, which he joined in 2024. “I’m open,” he said when discussing his future plans, indicating he is ready for a new challenge and eager to explore potential opportunities.
