UPDATE: The Leeds Knights secured a thrilling victory over the Telford Tigers with a final score of 4-2 at Elland Road on Saturday evening, thrilling nearly 2,000 fans in attendance. This decisive win comes just in time as the Knights prepare for a challenging match against the Peterborough Phantoms on Sunday.
The Knights stormed to an impressive 2-0 lead within the first 20 minutes, with goals from Owen Sobchak and Liam Peyton. However, a “sloppy” second period allowed the Tigers to claw back, leveling the score at 2-2 before the Knights rebounded in the third.
Head coach Aldridge praised his team’s early performance but expressed concern over their mid-game lapse. “I thought the boys were brilliant for the first 20 minutes,” he stated. “Then we were pretty sloppy for the middle period before we found our feet again in the last eight minutes.” His words clearly resonated with the team, as they returned to form in the third period.
With just under 13 minutes left in the game, Balint Pakozdi put the Knights back in front with a power play goal, swiftly followed by a fourth goal from Danny Harrison, who netted his second goal in as many games at the 47th minute.
The Knights’ strong start saw them dominate the first period, with just 56 seconds gone when Sobchak found the back of the net after excellent teamwork from Innes Gallacher and Matt Bissonnette. Peyton then extended the lead with a power play goal just as the first period was set to end.
However, the Telford Tigers, known for their fierce competitiveness, retaliated early in the second period with a goal from Rhodes Mitchell-King. They leveled the score shortly before the end of the second with a pinpoint shot from Caelan McPhee.
Despite the Tigers’ comeback, the Knights’ resilience shone through. The win marks a significant momentum shift following last week’s comeback victory against the Bristol Pitbulls. The Knights are now looking ahead to their match against the Phantoms, with Aldridge emphasizing the need to maintain their early-game intensity.
As the Knights continue their season, fans will be eagerly watching to see if they can build on this performance and secure more wins in the days ahead.
