URGENT UPDATE: A local mother’s inspiring battle against breast cancer is uniting hockey legends for a charity event in Nottingham. Rebecca Combellack, 39, was diagnosed in May and has since undergone intense treatment, prompting a rallying call for awareness and support that has already raised an astonishing £37,000 for cancer charities.
After her diagnosis, Rebecca and her husband, Richard Combellack, 43, discovered the severe impacts of breast cancer, particularly its emotional toll on young families. Living in Sutton Bonington, the couple is determined to share their journey, aiming to educate others about the disease’s effects, especially for those under 40.
Rebecca, who owns a design and marketing business, expressed, “We encountered so many individuals diagnosed at a young age, and it’s terrifying. There’s a significant lack of awareness about what to watch for.” Richard echoed her sentiments, stating, “We had to turn this into a positive and generate awareness so that no one else has to endure this.”
To support their mission, Rebecca walked 100 miles throughout November, while Richard shaved his head in solidarity. Their fundraising efforts included a silent auction supported by numerous businesses, all contributing toward their goal to make a difference.
Now, the couple is gearing up for their biggest event yet. On February 8, 2024, at 3:30 PM, a charity ice hockey game will take place at Nottingham’s Motorpoint Arena. The event will feature former Nottingham Panthers players, including David Clarke and Marc Leavers, along with ex-Sheffield Steeler Ben Bliss. The couple aims to sell 2,000 tickets for the 7,000-capacity arena to maximize fundraising efforts.
Rebecca and Richard’s children, Matthew, 12, and Sienna, 9, have been instrumental in their journey, providing support and inspiration. “The kids have helped me so much throughout my charity work. I couldn’t have done it without them,” Rebecca said.
Richard expressed immense pride in Rebecca’s courage, stating, “What she’s doing is incredible. Her determination to turn this challenge into a mission is truly inspiring.” He humorously added, “Even without her hair, she still looks like Demi Moore—she’s the most beautiful woman in the world.”
The community has rallied behind the Combellacks, with Richard noting, “The support has been nothing short of incredible. The estate agent industry has come together remarkably, and the generosity shown is heartwarming.”
Join Rebecca and Richard in their fight against breast cancer by attending the charity event at the Motorpoint Arena on February 8. Tickets are available on Eventbrite, and donations can be made through their fundraiser link.
Every contribution counts in the battle against breast cancer, and this event promises to be both impactful and inspiring. The Combellacks hope to make a significant difference in awareness and funding for vital research, ensuring that future generations are better informed and supported. Don’t miss the chance to be part of this important cause!
