Major Police Crackdown in West Midlands Seizes £100,000 in Illicit Goods

UPDATE: A significant police operation across the West Midlands has resulted in the seizure of over £100,000 in cash and illegal goods, alongside 11 arrests linked to serious criminal activities. The crackdown, dubbed Operation Machinize, was executed by the National Crime Agency (NCA) and targeted organized crime in Coventry, Birmingham, and the Black Country.

Authorities confirmed that officers executed multiple warrants under this major initiative on November 22, 2023. Searches at two addresses in Digbeth uncovered three imitation firearms, 20 bottles of illegally imported alcohol, and a significant quantity of suspected Class A drugs.

The operation specifically aimed at cash-heavy businesses, such as barbershops and nail bars, often exploited by organized gangs for money laundering. Police collaborated with several agencies, including the Regional Organised Crime Unit (ROCU), Home Office Immigration Enforcement, Trading Standards, HM Revenue and Customs, and Companies House, to maximize the impact of these raids.

In conjunction with the NCA, police in Coventry also worked with the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) to enhance enforcement efforts. On the same day, 24 light commercial vehicles were checked, leading to the identification of several offences. Five vehicles were seized, and one man was arrested on suspicion of two thefts.

This swift action underscores the ongoing challenge posed by organized crime in the region, as police seek to disrupt illegal operations and protect local communities. The investigation remains active, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
