Mumbai Airport Launches Urgent Support Plan for Stranded Passengers

UPDATE: Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport has just launched an urgent support plan for passengers stranded due to massive flight cancellations by IndiGo Airlines. The airport is implementing a series of immediate measures to alleviate the distress faced by thousands of travelers affected by these disruptions.

In response to the ongoing crisis, airport authorities are prioritizing passenger comfort, communication, and logistics. Effective immediately, the airport has set up additional seating across both terminals, providing a much-needed space for travelers to rest during extended waits. To further ease discomfort, free refreshments are being distributed to those impacted by the delays.

Airport officials have deployed extra duty terminal managers and customer service executives to assist passengers and respond to their inquiries quickly. Food and beverage outlets have been instructed to maintain adequate stock at reasonable prices, with airport staff actively monitoring pricing to prevent overcharging amid the chaos.

To streamline the departure process for those affected by cancellations, dedicated exit gates are now operational, staffed by terminal operations personnel, airline representatives, and CISF officers. Furthermore, 24-hour help desks have been established to ensure that passengers receive timely updates and accurate information regarding their flights. Flight Information Display Systems are also being updated regularly to reflect the latest airline inputs.

In terms of health and safety, airport medical teams are on standby to provide assistance to anyone in need. Additional housekeeping staff have been deployed to maintain cleanliness in crowded areas, ensuring hygiene standards are upheld, particularly in female washrooms and baby care facilities.

A special baggage retrieval taskforce has also been formed, consisting of teams from terminal operations, baggage operations, MIAL security, CISF, and IndiGo. This group is working diligently to quickly retrieve and return checked-in baggage for passengers from canceled flights, minimizing further inconvenience.

As operational challenges continue due to uncertainty surrounding flight schedules, the airport has allocated special parking for approximately 25 grounded IndiGo aircraft. Additional traffic marshals have been stationed at multi-level car parks and terminal exits to facilitate smoother vehicle flow and ease passenger movement.

This urgent response comes as Mumbai grapples with severe travel disruptions affecting countless individuals. Passengers are encouraged to stay informed and utilize the resources provided by Mumbai airport to navigate this challenging situation.
