URGENT UPDATE: Lakeville Books & Stationery has officially opened its doors in Great Barrington today, November 7, 2025, marking a significant addition to the local literary scene. Owners Darryl Peck and his family are transforming the former The Bookloft space into a vibrant haven for book lovers, just in time for the holiday shopping season.
Readers are celebrating as the new store promises an extensive selection of over 20,000 items, catering to diverse interests from fiction to architecture. Peck, who has dedicated over 54 years to retail, emphasizes the importance of creating a community-oriented bookstore, stating, “We knew Great Barrington needed a local bookstore.”
The opening comes after months of preparation, following the news of The Bookloft’s struggles. The Pecks stepped in to secure the location at 63 State Road after extensive renovations. “This is our retirement project, and we’ve never missed an opening day,” Darryl noted, highlighting their commitment to the community and their passion for books.
The newly renovated space features an improved layout and a carefully curated selection of books, with strong sections for children and young adults. “We’ve got a robust children’s section and a well-curated selection for adults,” Peck explained, ensuring readers of all ages will find something to enjoy.
In addition to books, the store offers a variety of stationery and writing supplies, drawing on the family’s love for paper goods. “We’re all stationery junkies,” Peck admitted, promising an irresistible selection of journals, greeting cards, and art supplies.
Foot traffic has already exceeded expectations, with cars lining up to get a glimpse of the new store on opening day. “The response has been incredible,” Peck shared, citing community support as a driving force behind their venture.
To celebrate their launch, Lakeville Books is rolling out the LBS Rewards program, allowing customers to earn a $10 reward for every $200 spent, along with a monthly newsletter featuring staff reviews and recommendations.
As the holiday season approaches, Peck and his team are focused on creating a welcoming atmosphere for all visitors. “Shopping locally isn’t just about buying a product. It’s an act of community support and personal joy,” he said, inviting everyone to discover their next great read.
This opening not only revitalizes Great Barrington’s literary landscape but also reinforces the importance of independent bookstores in fostering community connections. Don’t miss your chance to explore Lakeville Books & Stationery—your next discovery awaits!
