UPDATE: The music scene is buzzing as the rising band XO has just wrapped up a sensational debut headline tour, selling out venues across the UK. This rapid ascent has catapulted the group, which includes members Summer Askew, Shali Bordoni, Zoë Miller, Emmy Statham, and Reanna Sujeewon, into the spotlight, making them a name on everyone’s lips.
The band, signed with the prestigious Polydor label in February, has gained significant traction, receiving early support from BBC Radio 1 and BBC Introducing. Their recent tour, which concluded just days ago, left fans in awe as they experience a whirlwind year packed with achievements.
Summer, only 20 and from West Derby, expressed her disbelief at the overwhelming success. “We were so excited,” she said. “We just came off the back of a school tour and had so many kids messaging us saying they wanted to be there, but we didn’t actually expect they’d physically buy tickets.”
The band’s EP, “Fashionably Late,” was released on November 14, 2023, offering a collection of pop tracks infused with noughties RnB influences. The standout track, “Dead Chat,” showcases the band’s playful side, featuring voice notes of the group discussing a comical encounter with a suitor.
Fans have embraced the EP, which is no surprise given the recent sell-out tour. Summer noted, “We’ve all been taken by surprise with the reaction to the EP. We literally only became a band in September last year, and to have two singles out and a headline tour is just crazy in the space of a year.”
Despite their fast-paced success, the group remains grounded. Summer mentioned the joy of being together during celebratory moments, saying, “When the EP came out, we were on a shoot, and everyone was just like, ‘Woo!’ But after our final show, we had a little party in the hotel lobby.”
