URGENT UPDATE: Sky Mobile has confirmed a price hike that will impact thousands of customers on February 14. For the first time in over seven years, most subscribers will see their monthly bills increase by £1.50, with only seven days remaining to cancel penalty-free.
Customers are facing an unwelcome surprise as Sky prepares to impose a mid-contract price increase. The majority of affected users must act quickly—time is running out to avoid these new charges. Approximately 8% of tariffs will rise by £1, while about 2% will experience a steep £3 hike. This translates to as much as a 25% increase for those on lower-cost SIM-only packages, adding financial strain amid the ongoing cost of living crisis.
Ernest Doku, mobile expert at Uswitch.com, warns that the opportunity to escape this increase is dwindling. “While the new rates don’t hit bills until February 14th, the right to walk away penalty-free expires just 30 days after you were notified, which, for many, is now just a week away,” he stated. “This is a ‘use it or lose it’ right – and the clock is ticking.”
Sky does not disclose future price increases when customers sign up, retaining the ability to modify prices mid-contract. Current subscribers can terminate their contracts without penalties if they act within the 30-day notification window. This differs from many competitors, who are now required by Ofcom to inform new customers about potential future increases.
Consumer advocate Martin Lewis has raised alarms over mid-contract price hikes across the mobile industry, emphasizing that customers should take advantage of their right to cancel if they disagree with the new pricing. His concerns highlight a troubling trend: customers are increasingly vulnerable to above-inflation increases during their contract periods.
Millions of Sky Mobile customers are affected, and many could benefit from switching to more affordable plans. With telecommunications providers raising prices annually, often in spring, the urgency to act is heightened.
What to Do Now: Check your email for the Sky Mobile price adjustment notification—this starts your 30-day countdown. If you wish to cancel, do so before the notice period ends. Consider switching to a more affordable SIM-only package or exploring competitors that offer fixed-rate contracts without mid-term price increases.
The clock is ticking for Sky Mobile users. Take action now to protect your wallet from rising costs.
