UPDATE: Southwest Airlines has just announced exciting new non-stop service from Las Vegas to Hilo, Hawaii, starting on August 6, 2026. This marks a significant development as it will be the only direct connection from the US mainland to Hilo, which has been without such a service since 2023.
The world’s largest low-cost carrier will operate this route three times a week—on Monday, Thursday, and Friday—using the state-of-the-art Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft. This new service enhances the travel options for both residents and tourists looking to enjoy Hilo’s stunning landscapes and rich culture.
Adam Decaire, Southwest Airlines Senior Vice President, Network Planning, emphasized the importance of this connection, stating,
“We heard you, Hilo. Las Vegas is important to you, and you’re important to us.”
The service aims to facilitate easier access to family and leisure activities in Nevada, alongside connections to over 75 destinations from Las Vegas.
Travelers can expect convenient flight timings, with departures from Las Vegas at 9:30 AM and arrivals in Hilo at 12:35 PM. Return flights will depart Hilo at 8:45 PM, landing back in Las Vegas at 5:10 AM the following day. This schedule is designed to maximize convenience for families and holidaymakers eager to explore the warm climate, lush rainforests, and beautiful beaches of Hawaii.
The launch of this route is not just a boon for travelers but also a major boost for Hilo’s local economy. Enhanced connectivity will likely increase tourism and trade, providing meaningful opportunities for local businesses on both sides of the Pacific.
Southwest Airlines has steadily expanded its presence in Hawaii since launching services to the region in 2019. This new Hilo route will complement existing intra-island flights to Honolulu and other Hawaiian destinations, reinforcing the airline’s commitment to becoming the airline of choice for Hawaii-bound travelers.
In addition to the new Hilo service, Southwest is set to debut other flight routes from Las Vegas in 2026, including new international services to Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, and San Jose del Cabo starting on June 4, 2026. This expansion is part of a broader strategy to enhance travel options and cater to the growing demand for direct flights.
As Southwest Airlines gears up for this significant launch, the excitement is palpable among residents of both Las Vegas and Hilo, who will soon enjoy easier access to each other’s communities. With this new service, the airline is poised to revolutionize travel for those seeking the perfect blend of adventure and relaxation.
Stay tuned for further updates as this story develops, and prepare for your next Hawaiian getaway!
