Stalker Jailed for 2 Years Following Online Child Abuse Allegations

UPDATE: A stalker has been sentenced to two years in prison after continuing to harass his victim despite a restraining order and posting false child abuse allegations online. Patrick Egerton, 29, from Spiders Island, Alderbury, was convicted on November 28, 2023, at Swindon Crown Court for his relentless campaign of intimidation.

Investigators confirm that Egerton used multiple social media platforms to stalk his victim, spreading damaging lies and causing her to live in constant fear. Alongside his prison sentence, he has been issued a 10-year restraining order, prohibiting him from contacting the victim, visiting her home, or making any online posts about her.

Investigator Joe Cantillon stated, “Over a period of several months, Egerton has continued to contact his victim, threatening her with violence on occasion.” This behavior has left the victim feeling anxious and fearful for her safety.

Egerton had previously been subjected to a restraining order in Northern Ireland, where he first began his harassment. However, he defied the order, leading to his arrest in September 2023 in Wiltshire. After being released on bail, he persisted in contacting the victim and her family, escalating to posting serious allegations against her online, which included sharing her address and photos.

The victim’s impact statement revealed the profound emotional toll of Egerton’s actions: “Since the beginning of all of this, I have been having nightmares. There are certain places that I won’t go. Even though I know he is in prison at the moment, I still feel anxious and paranoid.”

Cantillon emphasized the seriousness of Egerton’s actions, stating, “His behavior is not acceptable and will not be tolerated.”

As authorities continue to address online harassment and stalking, this case highlights the urgent need for protective measures for victims of such crimes. The community is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behavior immediately.
