Students Can Now Obtain Master’s Year Completion Certificates

URGENT UPDATE: Students who have completed their first year of master’s studies in Montenegro can now officially apply for a certificate confirming their academic progress. This monumental change was announced yesterday, following the implementation of the new Law on Higher Education, which allows students to receive a diploma after finishing just one year of their master’s program.

This development addresses a critical issue faced by students seeking employment, as many reported difficulties in securing jobs without formal recognition of their academic achievements. Previously, students were required to complete two years of master’s studies to qualify for many positions, leaving them at a disadvantage in the job market.

Officials from various universities confirmed that the process for issuing these certificates has been streamlined, thanks to newly developed software. Students can expect rapid processing of their requests, ensuring they receive documentation equivalent to a diploma swiftly. However, they should be aware that it may take additional time for the official diplomas to be processed due to this recent change in the educational system.

Additionally, the Student Parliament of Montenegro announced that the procedure for issuing diplomas for postgraduate specialist studies, consisting of 240 ECTS credits, has officially started. Students enrolled in two-year master’s programs (3+2+3 study model) who have successfully completed all required exams for their first year, totaling 60 ECTS, are now eligible for this diploma.

To obtain the certificate, students must submit a completed application form along with proof of their passed examinations from their two-year master’s program. This swift transition is expected to enhance job prospects for many students, as it provides a quicker pathway to formal qualifications that are recognized in the labor market.

The educational reform represents a significant step towards improving access to employment for graduates and reflects the government’s responsiveness to students’ needs. As this initiative rolls out, students are encouraged to act quickly to secure their certificates and take advantage of the new opportunities that await them.

Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story as universities finalize their processes and students begin to receive their much-anticipated certificates.
