Two Women Charged as Dad Found Stabbed and Set on Fire

URGENT UPDATE: Two women have been charged in connection with the brutal murder of a father found with stab wounds in a field in Inverclyde. The victim, identified as Robert Best, was discovered around 9:20 AM on November 11, near High Mathernock Farm in Kilmacolm after being reported missing from Greenock earlier that day.

Authorities launched a murder investigation immediately following the discovery of Mr. Best’s body. Police arrested and charged two men, Andrew Brodie, 51, and Stephen Shields, 44, who are alleged to have killed the 50-year-old at Shields’ flat on Lansbury Street on November 10. Reports indicate they attempted to conceal their crime by wrapping Mr. Best’s body in a rug and attempting to set it on fire in the field.

The accused made no plea during their court appearance and remain in custody pending further legal proceedings. In a significant development, detectives have also arrested three additional suspects, including two women, aged 41 and 64, who have been charged and are scheduled to appear at Greenock Sheriff Court on Wednesday. A 41-year-old man connected to the case has been released pending further inquiries.
