URGENT UPDATE: UK airline Blue Islands has collapsed, suspending all flights from Newcastle Airport effective immediately on November 14, 2025. The sudden cessation of operations has left many passengers stranded and employees in distress as the airline served the airport with flights to Guernsey and Jersey throughout the summer.
Blue Islands, which launched its weekly flights to the Channel Islands in May, offered three direct services per week from Newcastle. Thousands of passengers relied on its services until its abrupt termination, affecting travel plans for the upcoming holiday season. The airline employed around 100 staff, all of whom are now facing uncertainty following the sudden announcement.
A spokesperson for Newcastle Airport expressed deep sympathy for both the airline’s employees and the passengers impacted by this unexpected turn of events. “We are saddened to hear that Blue Islands has suspended operations with immediate effect,” they stated. “We sympathize with the airline’s employees at this difficult time and with the airline’s passengers whose travel plans have been affected.”
Passengers who had booked flights to Jersey next summer can still find alternatives through Jet2.com, which continues to operate flights from Newcastle. The Blue Islands website has issued a critical customer update, advising travelers: “All future flights operated by Blue Islands have been cancelled. Please do not travel to the airport unless you have made alternative travel arrangements.”
In light of the airline’s collapse, other carriers, including Aurigny and Loganair, have stepped in to provide “rescue flights” for stranded customers. However, these flights are limited to routes previously serviced by Blue Islands, connecting Jersey with Guernsey, Exeter, Bristol, and Southampton.
As the situation develops, passengers are urged to stay informed and seek alternative travel arrangements immediately. The fallout from Blue Islands’ sudden closure will have significant implications for travelers and the local economy, as many depend on these vital connections to the Channel Islands.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and will provide further updates as more information becomes available.
