UPDATE: A new and unusual holiday let is set to launch in Mid Wales, as planners have just approved a boat moored on the stunning Pen Y Clawdd Pool, located at Llanbister Road, Llandrindod Wells. This innovative project aims to attract visitors looking for unique accommodations in a picturesque setting.
The boat, which will be equipped with toilet and washing facilities, will be positioned on the north shore of the pool, enhancing the recreational offerings in the area. The development will include a jetty, a shed, and an access track to facilitate transport to the site. This picturesque lake spans 1.82 hectares and is renowned for its commercial recreational fishing, particularly popular among anglers.
Mr. Morgan, the developer from The Farm, Dutlas near Knighton, has confirmed that the boat will not only provide a unique holiday experience but is also expected to create one part-time job in the community. The site, known for its exceptional fishing opportunities, features an upland lake of 4.5 acres situated at 1200 feet altitude—potentially one of the highest carp lakes in the UK. Anglers can expect to catch carp, with some specimens reaching up to 26lb, alongside perch over 2lb.
Access to the boat will be streamlined through an existing gateway from an unclassified road, with a three-meter-wide track leading across two agricultural fields to the mooring. A small parking area for single vehicles will also be created, providing convenient access for guests.
The development’s environmental impact has been carefully considered, as it will not require the removal of any trees or shrubs. However, there will be minimal land alteration to accommodate the pontoon and access track. Sewage and grey water from the boat will be effectively managed through a treatment plant and drainage field, ensuring a sustainable approach to this exciting new venture.
As this project moves forward, it’s expected to become a popular destination for both locals and tourists seeking a memorable escape in nature.
Stay tuned for more updates as construction begins and the opening date approaches!
