Upcoming British Parks Competitions Ignite Excitement in Whitchurch

URGENT UPDATE: The Whitchurch-based bowling association is set to host a series of thrilling British Parks competitions this spring, with significant events scheduled before the end of May. The action kicks off with the Senior Merits tournament, and the excitement continues with both men’s and ladies Merits competitions on Good Friday, April 3.

Officials confirm that the tournament will start in the morning to avoid overlap with the opening night of the Shropshire Premier League, ensuring maximum participation. “The Merits are open to both male and female bowlers who must be members of a club affiliated with North Shropshire Parks,” stated a spokesperson for the association.

Players will pay an entry fee of just £10 for a chance to compete for a total prize fund of £640. Notably, the last four competitors will automatically qualify for the prestigious British Parks Men’s Merit finals taking place on August 30 in North Staffordshire, while the top four, and likely the top eight, will secure a spot in the British Parks Ladies Merit finals on May 31.

In addition to the Ladies Merit finals, the association will also host the British Parks Junior 10-a-side Championship on April 20. This exciting lineup of events promises to engage bowlers and fans alike in the Whitchurch area.

In related news, the Mid Shropshire Senior Citizens League, the oldest veterans bowling league in Shropshire, is on track to expand significantly. Secretary John Palmer announced potential plans for a new team from Charlton, which would bring the league to a full complement of five divisions of 12 sides each this coming year.

The Hadley-based club is expected to confirm its participation during the AGM on February 12 at the Sinclair Club in Telford, set for 1:30 PM. With no rule change proposals submitted for the annual meeting, league officials are eager to discuss potential changes to eligibility rules for the later stages of the Charity Shield and explore options for compensating clubs that host league events.

As the bowling community gears up for these competitions, players and fans are encouraged to stay tuned for more updates and developments. The upcoming events are not just competitions; they represent a vibrant community coming together to celebrate the sport of bowling in North Shropshire.
