BREAKING: West Berkshire Council has announced an urgent plan to chop down 200 trees across the district due to safety concerns. A recent tree survey identified several ash trees suffering from dieback, posing risks of falling onto busy roads.
In a decisive move, the council confirmed that 25 trees will be removed along the north side of Ermin Street near Hill Drop Lane in Lambourn. Additionally, another 120 trees will be felled along the A339 by Shaw Park, and 37 trees along the A4 towards Sulhamstead Hill.
Authorities indicated that a few other tree species, including poplars, willows, and elms, are also in decline and require removal. “We anticipate that natural regeneration of local shrubs will fill the gaps,” the council stated, emphasizing their commitment to maintaining the area’s greenery.
This action is part of an ongoing effort to ensure public safety on local highways. With concerns about falling branches and trees heightened, residents and commuters are urged to stay vigilant as the council works to mitigate these risks.
The tree removal project is expected to commence within the next few months. Residents can expect updates from the council as the timeline and specific dates for the tree clearance become available.
Stay tuned for further developments on this situation as West Berkshire prioritizes safety while managing its natural resources.
