UPDATE: A gang of masked burglars is actively being sought by police after a series of high-value home break-ins across the West Midlands. The suspects, identifiable by their distinctive red gloves, have been captured on CCTV entering unlit homes during the night, targeting properties in Worcestershire and Herefordshire.
Authorities report that valuable items, including jewellery and cash, have been stolen in these incidents, which detectives are treating as linked. The investigation follows multiple reports of nighttime burglaries, raising urgent concerns for residents’ safety.
Detective Inspector Dave Knight of West Mercia Police stated, “We are carrying out a full and thorough investigation into this series of burglaries. Our communities can expect to see increased patrols in the areas being targeted.”
The suspects are described as white men in their late teens or early twenties, and a black BMW is believed to be associated with the crimes. Police are urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately.
“In addition to reporting, we encourage the public to review their security measures,” said Inspector Knight. He emphasized that the burglars often target unlit properties, suggesting residents use timers for interior lights to deter criminals. Furthermore, he advised securing patio doors and locking outbuildings, garages, and sheds when not in use.
Residents are also encouraged to consider installing motion sensor CCTV that connects to mobile devices, enhancing home security. “Taking photos of your property and valuables, or marking them with SmartWater, can aid in identification if stolen,” Inspector Knight added.
If you witness any suspicious behavior or a break-in in progress, authorities urge you to call 999 immediately.
