Urgent: Court Releases Blažo Šaranović in Corruption Case

UPDATE: In a surprising turn of events, the Higher Court in Podgorica has just announced the release of Blažo Šaranović, former head of the Property Administration, who has been in custody since February 18, 2023. This decision also impacts two other suspects, Branko Danilović, a procurement officer, and Duško Radunović, owner of the construction firm “Stan projekt”.

The court has imposed strict supervision measures, including a ban on leaving their residences and restrictions on meeting certain individuals. Earlier, the court lifted pretrial detention for two other suspects, Dijana Krivokapić and Rosanda Dujović.

This release follows serious allegations against Šaranović and his co-defendants, who are suspected of causing significant damage to the state budget—amounting to millions of euros—through the questionable purchase of a non-functional building intended for the needs of Monstat, the statistical office of Montenegro.

Officials from the Special State Prosecutor’s Office initiated the investigation, underlining the urgency of their findings. The implications of this case are profound, as it highlights corruption concerns that could shake public trust in government institutions.

What happens next remains critical to watch, as the suspects are now under surveillance while the investigation continues. Stay tuned for updates as this situation develops.
