Emergency services, including four fire engines from Newry, Banbridge, and Warrenpoint, responded swiftly to the scene. Firefighters discovered the cannabis factory while battling the blaze, leading to immediate police involvement. Witnesses report that neighboring residents were evacuated as a precaution while firefighters worked to extinguish the flames.
Inspector Walker reported, “Officers attended the scene, along with colleagues from the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service, who extinguished the fire and advised police there was a substantial amount of cannabis and associated paraphernalia within the property.” Fortunately, no injuries were reported, as there was no one inside the house at the time of the fire.
Authorities confirm that the fire is not currently being treated as suspicious, and efforts are ongoing to determine the cause. Inspector Walker reassured the local community, stating, “There was no ongoing risk to the public from the fire and that the scene was subsequently made safe.”
