URGENT UPDATE: Owners of certain integrated heat pump tumble dryers from Haier are being warned to stop using their appliances immediately due to a serious fire risk. The brands affected include Baumatic, Candy, Caple, Hoover, Lamona, Iberna, and Montpellier. If you own one of these devices, it is crucial to check your model and serial numbers online for any urgent safety repairs.
The danger arises from an internal short circuit that can occur during regular use, potentially leading to a fire. The manufacturer has already initiated a corrective action program for 103,000 units earlier this year, but the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) ordered Haier to halt this program due to safety concerns regarding the modifications made.
As of now, Haier has resumed its repair program after updating their safety measures and is actively contacting consumers. They are prioritizing repairs for the remaining 85,000 appliances that have yet to be addressed, as these units still pose a significant fire hazard.
Consumers are strongly advised to cease using the affected dryers immediately. If the plug is accessible, turn off and unplug the appliance to prevent any potential incidents. Contact the manufacturer directly to arrange for repairs if your dryer is listed among those at risk.
For safety, check if your tumble dryer is impacted and reach out to the relevant manufacturer:
