Urgent: Train Services Halted After Vehicle Strikes Bridge

UPDATE: Rail services are in turmoil after a vehicle collided with a railway bridge in the Cwmbran area, causing all lines to be blocked. Transport for Wales (TfW) has confirmed that no trains can operate between Newport and Hereford until repairs are completed, severely impacting travel just hours before a major rugby match in Cardiff.

This incident is prompting significant disruptions, with emergency bus replacement services currently running between Newport and Hereford. Passengers are advised to expect longer travel times, as road transport will take considerably more time than trains, especially with hundreds of rugby supporters expected to converge on the Principality Stadium for Wales’ match against Argentina.

TfW issued a statement, saying, “Due to urgent repairs to a bridge between Newport, South Wales, and Hereford, all lines are blocked. Train services running through these stations will be cancelled. Disruption is expected until 1 PM today, November 9.”

The collision has left many commuters stranded, and the situation is evolving rapidly. TfW is handling the situation and urges passengers to check their website for real-time updates.

In a bid to mitigate the impact, TfW has initiated an emergency road transport order. However, they warn that delays are likely, which may affect passengers’ plans significantly. “If a train is delayed or cancelled, resulting in passengers reaching their destination more than 15 minutes behind schedule, they are eligible to claim compensation through our Delay Repay scheme,” TfW added.

Travelers are encouraged to stay informed and plan accordingly as this situation develops. With a major event in Cardiff today, the pressure on alternative transport options is expected to increase, making this an urgent issue for all affected.

Stay tuned for further updates as authorities work to resolve the disruption.
