BREAKING: Four talented pupils from Wrekin College have been selected for prestigious netball roles, marking a significant achievement for the school. This announcement comes as Caroline Ritchie-Morgan, Wrekin’s Director of Netball and an England Roses selector, continues to nurture young talent in the sport.
Among the standout selections is Millie Jacklin-Chatha, who has been named in the England Roses U19 Academy Squad. Joining her are two former students: Halee Robinson, a former England U19 player now part of the London Pulse NexGen squad, and Josie Pointon, recently appointed as Head Coach for the England Roses Academy Squad. Additionally, Caitlin Tandy, a current Upper Sixth student, has earned a spot on the Republic of Ireland squad.
Ritchie-Morgan expressed her pride in the students, stating, “All of this success is so well-deserved, and I couldn’t be happier for Millie, Halee, Caitlin, and Josie.” She highlighted their dedication and enthusiasm, which have greatly contributed to Wrekin’s strong sports program, particularly in netball. Under her guidance, the school has not lost a U19 county final in the last ten years, showcasing its dominance in the sport.
Millie shared her excitement about her selection, attributing her growth to the exceptional coaching at Wrekin. “Since joining Wrekin College, my netball has gone from strength to strength thanks to the excellent coaching from Mrs Ritchie-Morgan,” she stated. She aims to represent England in the future, driven by the support she has received at the school.
Halee reflected on her experience at Wrekin, noting it was pivotal in her development. “Wrekin’s brave attitude to adversity embedded in me a resilience which allows me to see challenges as something to conquer, not fear,” she explained. Her journey included overcoming the challenges of lockdown while preparing for A-levels and university, ultimately earning a spot in a competitive physiotherapy program.
Netball continues to thrive at Wrekin College, attracting some of the brightest young talents in the game. The school is also excited to welcome Josie back to connect with aspiring players once her coaching schedule permits.
As netball gains momentum across the UK and beyond, the achievements of these young women serve as an inspiration, showcasing the bright future of women’s sports.
