Emirates Ends Airbus A380 Service to Copenhagen, Boosts Capacity

Emirates has announced the conclusion of its Airbus A380 flights to Copenhagen Kastrup Airport (CPH) from Dubai International Airport (DXB), effective May 31, 2026. This transition marks the end of the superjumbo’s operations to the Danish capital, a service that resumed just over a year ago. Despite the withdrawal of the A380, Emirates will enhance its capacity on this route by replacing the single daily A380 flight with two daily flights utilizing smaller aircraft from its existing fleet.

The shift to operating two flights daily indicates Emirates’ strategy to better serve connecting passengers traveling through Dubai. The new schedule will not only maintain but potentially increase the overall seating capacity available on this route. By deploying smaller twin-engine aircraft, Emirates aims to provide more options for travelers connecting to various destinations.

Return of the A380 to Copenhagen and Upcoming Changes

Emirates reintroduced the Airbus A380 to the Copenhagen route in January 2025, following a hiatus that began in March 2020 due to the global pandemic. The A380 service, which resumed after almost five years, marked a significant milestone, making Copenhagen the 21st European destination to receive regular A380 flights. The aircraft operated in a two-class configuration, featuring 58 lie-flat seats in Business Class and 557 seats in Economy Class.

According to Cirium, an aviation analytics company, the last A380 flight from Dubai to Copenhagen will occur on May 31, 2026. Emirates has favored a morning schedule for this route, with flight EK151 departing Dubai at 07:30 local time. This timing has been strategic for connecting passengers arriving on overnight flights, leading to a scheduled arrival in Copenhagen at 12:30 local time. The return flight, EK152, is set to depart Copenhagen at 14:45, arriving in Dubai at 00:55 the following day.

Transition to Smaller Aircraft and Increased Capacity

Beginning June 1, 2026, Emirates will replace the Airbus A380 with a combination of the Airbus A350 and Boeing 777 for its daily flights to Copenhagen. This operational change is driven by the airline’s decision to increase frequency from one to two flights per day, which would be challenging to sustain with two A380s.

The Boeing 777-300ER will serve as the primary aircraft, featuring 421 seats, while the Airbus A350-900 will offer 298 seats. This adjustment means that Emirates will provide a total of 719 seats per day in each direction, yielding a 16.91% increase in seating capacity compared to the A380’s 615 seats. In December 2026, Emirates plans to transition from the 777-300ER to the 777-200LR, which has a capacity of 302 seats.

This strategic realignment reflects Emirates’ commitment to adapting its fleet to meet passenger demand while maximizing operational efficiency. The decision to withdraw the A380 from the Copenhagen route may signify broader trends in airline capacity management as travel patterns evolve.
