The death of influencer Barbara Jankavski, known as “Boneca Desumana,” is now being investigated as a potential homicide, marking a significant turn in the case. Jankavski, 31, was found deceased at the residence of prominent lawyer Renato de Vitto on November 2, 2023. Initially believed to have died from a heart attack linked to cocaine use, new evidence has prompted authorities to take a closer look at the circumstances surrounding her death.
Jankavski’s family has been vocal about their suspicions, advocating for a re-examination of her remains. They are reportedly prepared to authorize her exhumation to facilitate a second autopsy. Concerns have arisen regarding potential foul play, particularly as family members and legal representatives have noted injuries on her body that they believe warrant further investigation.
Witness accounts and early police reports have painted a complicated picture. De Vitto indicated that he had engaged Jankavski for sex and claimed they both consumed drugs before she fell asleep beside him. He stated he attempted to revive her for approximately nine minutes before contacting emergency services. In a separate account, a female friend of the lawyer alleged that Jankavski may have sustained her injuries during a fall.
Despite these explanations, the family has raised alarms over potential lapses in the initial investigation. They argue that forensic teams did not conduct DNA tests on the three individuals present in the home at the time of Jankavski’s death. Additionally, they claim that authorities failed to examine her fingernails for any DNA evidence, which could provide crucial insights into the events leading to her death.
Jankavski had undergone a staggering 27 plastic surgeries, investing around £42,000 in procedures to achieve her “Human Barbie” appearance. Her transformation was well-documented on social media, where she had amassed nearly 57,000 followers on Instagram. She frequently shared her journey, including a notable throwback photo that highlighted her dramatic changes over the years.
The influencer’s rise to fame included appearances on television and participation in advertising campaigns. She often collaborated with fellow influencer Mauricio Galdio, known as the “Human Ken Doll,” who gained attention for his extreme body modifications. Jankavski even boasted about undergoing five additional surgeries during the COVID-19 pandemic, a period that saw her share graphic images of her recovery with her audience.
Since her passing, tributes have poured in from followers and fans, expressing shock and sorrow at her untimely death. One Instagram user, Naty Silveira, expressed disbelief, writing, “I can’t believe it. I loved you so much. Rest in peace.” Another tribute read, “I hope God receives you with open arms. You lived a little bit of the life you loved.”
As the investigation continues, Brazilian prosecutors are actively probing the circumstances surrounding Jankavski’s death. The reopening of the case and possible exhumation reflect the family’s determination to seek justice and uncover the truth about what truly happened to their daughter.
