Masanobu Sato has made headlines by setting an unofficial world record for the longest masturbation session, clocking in at an impressive nine hours and 58 minutes. This remarkable feat occurred at the Centre of Sex and Culture in San Francisco in 2009, where Sato surpassed his previous record of nine hours and 33 minutes. While the event may raise eyebrows, it is part of a larger cultural phenomenon that began in 1998 with the launch of “Masturbation Month” in an adult shop in San Francisco.
The concept gained further attention in 2006 with the establishment of the first “masturbate-a-thon” in Europe. This event, however, remained relatively low-profile until Sato’s participation in 2009 drew significant interest. In an interview with Vice following his record-breaking performance, Sato shared insights into his preparation and technique.
Sato emphasized the importance of imagination as a key factor in his success. “My abundant imagination was a key to my triumph,” he stated. He also noted his rigorous training regimen in Japan, which included swimming twice a week and gaining approximately five kilograms of muscle weight. This physical preparation, he claimed, significantly contributed to his stamina during the lengthy session.
Another critical aspect of Sato’s strategy was the variety of sensations provided by using multiple devices. He utilized up to ten different Tenga products, explaining that this variety prevented monotony and enhanced his endurance. “Without the variety of sensations, my body would feel the same for too long,” he remarked.
Despite his unconventional achievement, Sato’s record does not hold official status with Guinness World Records, as the organization does not recognize records deemed vulgar or inappropriate. Nevertheless, Sato has continued to embrace his unique notoriety, actively maintaining an Instagram account titled “Masaturbation,” although it has garnered a modest following of just 421 users.
Beyond his record-setting endeavors, Sato has taken up kickboxing and celebrates “Foreskin Day” on April 4 each year. There have been unverified claims about a book titled “How to Masturbate Properly,” but Sato has never confirmed its existence.
The Daily Star has reached out to Sato for further comments, particularly regarding whether he has attempted to break his own record since 2009. As the conversation around sexual wellness continues to evolve, Sato’s record serves as a curious footnote in the broader discourse on personal pleasure and self-exploration.
