Martin Compston Steps into Lead Role in ITV’s Red Eye Series

Martin Compston is set to join the cast of the much-anticipated second series of ITV‘s gripping drama Red Eye. The show, which captivated audiences last year, follows the story of Dr. Matthew Nolan, portrayed by Richard Armitage, who was wrongfully involved in a conspiracy while working alongside DC Hana Li, played by Jing Lusi.

Following the series’ explosive conclusion, viewers eagerly awaited news of its return. In May, ITV confirmed that Red Eye would indeed be back, although Armitage will not reprise his role. Instead, Compston, known for his performance in Line of Duty, will step into the spotlight, filling the significant shoes left by Armitage.

Compston Reflects on the Challenge Ahead

In a recent interview, Compston expressed his enthusiasm for the role. “I had a blast making it! I had big shoes to fill, literally with the size of Richard! He did such a wonderful job, leading with Jing in the first series,” he shared.

Compston acknowledged the pressure that comes with following a successful first season. “It’s great to come onto a job when you know there’s nice pressure on it because the first season was such a success,” he said. He emphasized the importance of elevating the series further, stating, “Your job is to help take it to the next level. It was a lovely pressure to have and a lovely returning team; the crew were all brilliant. It was great, we had a lot of fun.”

As filming progresses, Compston hinted at an intriguing development for the series, suggesting it becomes “more outlandish” and “more wild” as the episodes unfold. He refrained from revealing specific plot details, maintaining an air of mystery around the upcoming season.

A Stellar Cast and Exciting Collaborations

Compston praised his co-stars, particularly Lusi, who he described as “proud of the show” and “committed to it.” He noted the strong camaraderie among the cast, which includes Isaura Barbe-Brown, Nicholas Rowe, Danusia Samal, Trevor White, and Lesley Sharp, who Compston referred to as “British acting royalty.”

Lusi, reflecting on the show’s return, expressed her excitement, stating, “I’m incredibly excited to return to the world of Red Eye, and thrilled to be sharing this rollercoaster with the brilliant Martin Compston.”

While the specific air date for the second series has yet to be announced, the anticipation surrounding the return of Red Eye continues to build. With a talented cast and a commitment to enhancing the thrilling narrative, viewers can look forward to what promises to be another captivating season.
